With the basketball season winding down across Wisconsin, some area teams are still going for the gold.
In girl's basketball, Edgewood (24-3) defeated Wrightstown 60-38. Four players hit double figures for the Crusaders. They'll take on Martin Luther (26-1) on Saturday around 3:30pm for the Division 3 championship.
Division 2 (Beaver Dam against Monroe) and Division 1 (Middleton versus De Pere) will play Friday in Green Bay. The D2 semifinals are at 1:35pm, while the D1 semifinals are at 6:35pm.
In boy's basketball, Madison Memorial and Madison East will play for a trip to... well, Madison, since that's where the state tournament is held, in Division 1. The Spartans and Purgolders split their regular-season meetings, each earning road victories. Madison East was one of just three teams to beat the Spartans this year. Memorial took down Middleton 57-51 to advance to the Sectional Final, while Madison East, by far the lowest seed still remaining (all other remaining D1 seeds are seeded third or higher) as a 10-loss eight seed, beat Muskego 76-68. The teams will play at Sun Prairie at 1pm on Saturday afternoon.
In Division 2, Waunakee easily dispatched Monona Grove 65-47 to advance to the sectional final, where they will play fellow #1 seed Westosha Central in Middleton for a shot at a trip to state.
Division 3 featured a double-overtime victory for Lake Mills over Beloit Turner, 62-58. The L-Cats will face Adams-Friendship in Waunakee Saturday night at 7pm for a chance at making it to state.
Top-seeded Darlington dispatched New Glarus 73-59 and will play in Baraboo against another #1 seed, Cochrane-Fountain City, at 1pm in Division 4.
In Division 5, #1 Barneveld got a narrow win over Pecatonica 45-44. They'll play Hilbert in Watertown at 7pm.
