Badgers Basketball Opens Season With Commanding 85-59 Win Over South Dakota

The Wisconsin Badgers basketball team got their 2022-23 season started on the right foot with a 85-59 victory over the South Dakota Coyotes.

Wisconsin set the tone right out of the gate with a Steven Crowl three-pointer, the first of 12 the Badgers would make on the night.

South Dakota was able to keep it somewhat close throughout the first half, but Wisconsin began to pull away and a Chucky Hepburn buzzer beater three to end the first half put Wisconsin up 10 and they never looked back from that double digit lead.

The Badgers went on several scoring runs in the second half, including a 10-0 run, and held South Dakota without a three pointer made until their 13th attempt which came with about 9 minutes remaining in the second half.

Wisconsin had four players score double digit points. Tyler Wahl ended with a double-double, scoring 19 points, including nine from the free throw line and piling up 10 rebounds. Chucky Hepburn added 14 points, Steven Crowl had 12, and Max Klesmit scored 11.

It's the start to the season the Badgers were looking for and they'll look to continue it on Friday at the Brew City Battle at American Family Field against Stanford.
