The Packers drafted a quarterback named Jordan Love out of Utah State and a war began on social media that would make you forget we are in the middle of a pandemic. If there is a potential outcome for this move by the Packers, all of the couch lounging, draft expert, Packers fans have said it. Some have suggested that Aaron Rodgers will ask to be traded because of this pick, some have said that the Packers are starting a rebuild with this pick, and some have said Brian Gutekunst should be fired over this pick. I will give you a clue that all of those takes are wrong.
First and foremost, this pick by the Packers does not in any way, shape, or form guarantee that the Packers are ready to move on from Aaron Rodgers. It means that they saw an opportunity to get a young quarterback to learn from Rodgers and be there, if heaven forbid, something happens to Rodgers in regards to his skill or health. Secondly the Packers had the 30th pick in the draft. When the Packers were going through all of the different options for this draft it would make sense for them to look at one of the elite wide receivers that were in the draft, but by the time the Packers were up, they were all gone. Lastly, it is on Aaron Rodgers to take this decision by the Packers in stride and prove to the Packers and Jordan Love that this is his team and he is still the leader.
So before everyone in Packer nation jumps off a cliff and declares this team a lost cause, remember that you can't fault a GM for making the decision they did in a draft today, but you can in the future, so hold on to that grudge, bury it deep down inside, and if you end up being correct down the road then go nuts. In the mean time wash your hands, stay healthy, and be thankful we are even being allowed to talk about legitimate football stories right now.
