Are Unwritten Rules Good For Sports?

There has been a lot of chatter the last 24 hours about unwritten rules, triggered this time by Fernando Tatis Jr., a precocious and scintillating San Diego Padres rookie, who hit a home run on a 3-0 pitch Monday night while his team had a 7 run lead. This prompted upset reactions from the Texas Rangers, who thought it was outside the terms of unwritten rules of respect in baseball. Are these rules good or bad for baseball, or sports in general?
