HSFB: Catholic Memorial defeats Arrowhead 21-18

As the saying goes, it’s not how you start, it’s how you finish. After each side was forced to punt on their first three possessions, Catholic Memorial Quarterback Luke Fox got the scoring started with a 15-yard touchdown run with 4:30 left in the first quarter, and then a 76-yard touchdown run 3 minutes and 15 seconds later.

A 22-yard field goal at the end of the half by Arrowhead’s Tyler Bittman made it 14-3 going into the break.Arrowhead would then pull within 4 points with a Tommy Darrow to Robby Symdon touchdown pass with 3:34 remaining in the 3rd quarter. But Catholic Memorial had the quick answer by going on a drive that took less than 2 minutes when Fox connected with Alex Oechsner on a touchdown pass making it 21-10.

In the 4th quarter, Arrowhead drove and scored with 6:08 remaining when running back Josh Nielsen scored from inside the 1-yard line. The 2 point try was successful.

Arrowhead then kicked it away, rather than going for an on-side kick attempt, and Catholic Memorial drove it 79 yards down to the Arrowhead 1-yard line before a couple of kneel downs, running the final 6:08 off the clock, and securing the 21-18 victory.
