Uecker's greatest moment as a Cardinal?

Brewers radio announcer Bob Uecker is a legendary character. You know that already. He's made a career out of mocking his playing career.  The stories are hilarious, self-deprecating, often exaggerated and usually (mostly) true.

In 1965, the St. Louis Cardinals lined up to take their official team photo. Legend has it that the picture had to be re-taken, because Uecker was screwing around with pitcher Bob Gibson.

This photo, forwarded by a friend as the Cardinals and Brewers were cavorting at Miller Park, proves the legend. Ueck has his hand in Gibson's lap, and the look on the Hall of Fame pitcher's face is priceless.

I showed the photo to Rick Hummel, the Hall of Fame baseball writer from the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. "The Commish," as Hummel is known in press boxes, said he had heard the story but had never seen the photo.

Look at Uecker, who is No. 9 and sitting in the front row, fourth from the right.

It's one for the ages, just like Ueck.

Of course, this photo -- taken during warmups before a World Series game in 1964, is classic, too.
