Brewers Have Lost Four Straight Games After 5-4 Loss to Pirates

The Brewers losing streak reached four games on Thursday afternoon after a 5-4 loss in 10 innings to the Pirates. That completed the three-game sweep for the Pirates at PNC Park.

Pittsburgh struck first with a run in the second inning, but Milwaukee scored in the top of the third inning on a solo home run from Victor Caratini. It was the eighth home run of the season for Caratini.

Mike Brosseau hit his fifth home run of the season in the fifth inning to give the Brewers a 3-1 lead.

In the bottom of the seventh inning, Brandon Woodruff struggled greatly for the first time in the game. He allowed an RBI single from Tucupita Marcano and was subsequently removed from the game. Brad Boxberger relieved Woodruff and allowed a single by Ben Gamel that scored Jason Delay and tied the game. It was 3-3 after seven innings.

Hoby Milner and Devin Williams pitched scoreless innings to preserve the tie. The game headed to the 10th inning.

The Brewers scored in the top of the 10th inning when Kolten Wong was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded. This gave the Brewers a 4-3 lead into the bottom of the 10th inning.

In the bottom of the 10th inning, newcomer Matt Bush took the mound. The first batter he faced was Bryan Reynolds. Reynolds hit an RBI double to right field to tie the game at four. The Pirates proceeded to load the bases.

With the bases loaded, Bush threw a wild pitch and Reynolds scored from third base to give the Pirates a 5-4 win.

The Brewers have lost four games in a row. They will return home for a weekend series against the Cincinnati Reds starting Friday night at 7:30pm. The first pitch was pushed back due to the ceremony at American Family Field for the 1982 team.
