Woodruff and Yelich Power Brewers To 4-1 Win Over Red Sox

The Brewers are hot. Since the All-Star break, Milwaukee is 6-1 after their 4-1 win over the Red Sox on Friday night.

It was a pitching duel for the first half of the game.

The first run was scored in the top of the sixth inning when the Brewers put runners on first and third base with nobody out. Andrew McCutchen hit a slow ground ball to third base, which scored Christian Yelich to give the Brewers a 1-0 lead.

Boston responded with an RBI double by Alex Verdugo in the bottom of the sixth inning to tie the game at one.

The Brewers took the lead back in the top of the seventh inning when Tyrone Taylor hit a triple to deep centerfield. On the next pitch, Yelich hit a rocket to left field to score Taylor and give the Brewers a 2-1 lead.

Brandon Woodruff exited in the seventh inning after striking out nine, walking two batters, and giving up one earned run.

Brad Boxberger entered the game in the top of the seventh inning with two runners on base. He was able to escape the jam without allowing a run.

Neither team scored in the eight inning.

The Brewers added two insurance runs in the top of the ninth inning. Taylor drove in Victor Caratini on a sacrifice fly to left field and Willy Adames drove in Kolten Wong with an RBI single. The Brewers had a 4-1 lead heading to the bottom of the ninth inning.

Josh Hader allowed a base runner, but struck out three Red Sox to earn his 29th save of the season. The Brewers have won three games in a row and they are 6-1 since the All-Star break.

The Brewers continue the series today in Boston at 3:10pm.
