Brewers Cruise Past Reds 6-3 As Woodruff Makes More History

The Cincinnati Reds are the worst team in baseball and the Milwaukee Brewers cruised past them easily on Tuesday night. With Brandon Woodruff on the bump, the Brewers got off to a quick start.

In the third inning, the Brewers were able to get a couple of runners on base for shortstop Willy Adames, who crushed a middle-middle fastball to straightaway center for a 3 run homer to give Milwaukee a 3-0 lead over the Reds.

Woodruff, who was cruising through the first three innings, had a few struggles in the 4th inning, giving up home runs to Tommy Pham and Mike Moustakas to allow the Reds to pull within one and make it a 3-2 ballgame. But the Brewers offense answered right back with two more runs in the bottom of the fourth on a Luis Urias RBI single in his first game back from the IL and then a Kolten Wong sacrifice fly to make it a three run lead again.

In the sixth, Tommy Pham got his third hit of the night off Brandon Woodruff and that was the end of the line for him. Pham came around to score on a double by Moustakas off reliever Aaron Ashby.

It remained a 5-3 Brewers lead until the bottom of the 8th inning when Rowdy Tellez added some insurance with an opposite field solo home run off lefty Philip Diehl to make it 6-3. Devin Williams came in for the 9th to lock down the save.

Brandon Woodruff finished with 12 strikeouts in 5.2 IP with just four hits allowed, and three of them were by Pham. The three runs don't properly show how dominant he was in this game against the Reds lineup. The 12 strikeouts tied a career high for Woodruff.

Woodruff's double-digit strikeout total marks the third straight game in which the Brewers starting pitcher recorded 10 or more strikeouts, following Corbin Burnes and Eric Lauer from the previous two games. This is the first time in Brewers franchise history that their starting pitcher has recorded double digit strikeouts in three consecutive games.

On Wednesday night, it'll be Freddy Peralta on the mound for the Crew opposite Vladimir Gutierrez for the Reds.
