Brewers explode in sixth for key division win

The Milwaukee Brewers seem to have found their offensive stroke. Monday night in their series opener with Central Division rival Chicago, Milwaukee exploded for all six of their runs in the bottom of the sixth inning, in defeating the Cubs 6-3 at American Family Field.

The big blow was a bases-clearing three-run double by Luis Urias, which was followed up by a run-scoring wild pitch, an RBI triple by Jackie Bradley, Jr., and an RBI single by Keston Hiura.

On the mound, starter Freddy Peralta was again stellar, surrendering just one run on a solo homer by Kris Bryant. Beyond that, Peralta gave up just one other hit, while striking out 10 and walking just two.

The win means that Milwaukee has won five of their last six games, putting the Brewers (6-4) just ½ game behind first-place Cincinnati in the National League Central.

Game two of the Brewers-Cubs series is Tuesday night at 6:40 and will feature pitchers Brandon Woodruff of Milwaukee against Chicago’s Kyle Hendricks.
