Coach's Corner - Interview - Jaguars Running Backs Coach Terry Robiskie

Jaguars RB Terry Robiskie is in his first year with the team, coming on board with the team following Jacksonville’s tumultuous 2018 season, which involved inconsistency and off-the-field issues involving the running backs, namely Leonard Fournette. Robiskie himself has ties to Louisiana, Fournette’s home state, which helps him relate to the Jaguars running back as the team tries to get back on track.

Asked about his initial impressions of Fournette halfway through the preseason, Robiskie was impressed with the third year back. “I think he’s been excellent,” Robiskie said. “He’s been working hard. He’s constantly working every day on his conditioning, he’s working on staying in shape…Just from the standpoint of practice, and working, and getting the timing down and conditioning and getting in shape, I think he’s been phenomenal. I really do.”

With a new offensive coordinator and a new quarterback, the offensive scheme will shift. Offensive coordinator John DeFilippo has indicated recently that he’d like for the running back group to be more involved in the pass game, so we asked Robiskie how his group has adjusted to the expanding role in the pass offense. “We’ve been good in that field too…We’ve got a lot of things we have to stay on our p’s and q’s with, but the guys have been good. From what I’ve seen so far throughout training camp and the first two preseason games, the guys have been on top of their things as far as the flares and the route control and our portion of the routes. So hopefully we can keep that going.”

With Fournette’s struggles early in his career to stay healthy, the depth of the running back group is important for the success of the offense. “I don’t think they could fill Leonard’s role,” he said, when asked about how confident he was that the other running backs could step in if necessary. “Hopefully the thing we get is that I could get the best Thomas Rawls he can be or I could get the best Alfred Blue he can be…I don’t think they can step up and do Leonard’s role, but I think they could do a pretty good job for us.”
