A new report has found that a fifth member of the Florida Gators football program was accused of violence against women during Dan Mullen’s tenure as the team’s head coach.
Defensive back John Huggins hasn’t been with the Gators this preseason.
According to The Tampa Bay Times Huggins became the fifth member of the Gators football program to have been accused of violence against women – four of which have been released from the program.
Huggins allegedly chocked the victim after she took his phone to make sure he would stay for the session. The woman claimed Huggins pulled her hair in an earlier tutoring session.
She did not pursue a criminal case and no charges were filed for the battery complaint.
Head coach Dan Mullen commented on the previous incident. He says it has nothing to do with why Huggins hasn’t been in camp for the team.
“That’s all been handled,” Mullen said. He went on to say he has “great clarity” on Huggins’ status, but failed to give that information to reporters.
