There is growing momentum that Hugh Freeze and Nick Saban are about to join forces in Tuscaloosa as Tide begin their quest for a 6th title in 10 years.
CBS Sports' Dennis Dodd is reporting that the SEC does not have the ability to stand in the way of Saban hiring Freeze.
While an SEC bylaw states a school is supposed to consult commissioner Greg Sankey when it wishes to hire an individual with major NCAA violations, the hiring decision is ultimately made by the school, not the conference.
Freeze coached Mississippi from 2012-16, leading the program to four bowl appearances in his five seasons manning the sideline.
He was fired this past July after multiple NCAA violations ultimately placed the team on probation. In the end, Freeze was forced to resign or the program would have fired him.
