Breakfast is the most important meal of the day, and one of most popular early-morning staples is a fluffy stack of pancakes. As versatile as they are tasty, flapjacks can start your day off on a sweet note. While some eateries specialize in griddling pancakes to perfection, other restaurants have carefully curated a recipe unlike any other short stack you may have encountered before.

LoveFood searched around the country for the absolute best pancake houses around, compiling a list of the most memorable spot in each state serving up "sweet and salty pillowy piles [and] plates packed with innovative flavors."

According to the site, Al Johnson's Swedish Restaurant & Butik in Sister Bay was crowned the "best pancake house" in all of Wisconsin, dishing out tasty Swedish-style stacks smothered in syrup and delicious toppings and are often served with Swedish meatballs. Al Johnson's Swedish Restaurant & Butik is located at 10698 N. Bay Shore Drive.

Here's what LoveFood had to say about this sweet spot:

"Pancakes with a side of meatballs? The griddles at Al Johnson's Swedish Restaurant & Butik come with exactly that, and it works brilliantly. There are plenty of sweet options if that doesn't take your fancy, though, and they're equally delicious and consistently raved about by customers. Being a Swedish spot, you can expect the sweet plates to come piled with lingonberries, butter, and syrup. If that isn't enough to win you over, the goats grazing on the living roof will."
