Doug Gottlieb: Stop Saying Deshaun Watson is an 'Elite' Quarterback
Doug Gottlieb: “Look, is this year a little bit of a mess? Absolutely. It should be mentioned he’s going to play the rest of the way without his top wide receiver, who was having a great year, but maybe because he was juicing. The four years prior to Deshaun Watson getting there, their record was 29-35, and 1-2 in the playoffs. In the four years since he’s arrived in Houston Deshaun Watson is 29-30, and 1-2 in the playoffs… I can’t tell you that he’s not going to ultimately turn this thing around and become one of the all-time great quarterbacks, because I genuinely like him and I think he’s tough, but this idea that he’s some ‘elite’ quarterback?? – WHERE? Where does that come from?? Bill O’Brien had flaws as a GM and as a coach, but he’s widely considered a brilliant offensive guy, and they did everything in their power to get him running backs and wide receivers. He’s not Rodgers, he’s not Mahomes, he’s not Russell Wilson, he’s not CLOSE. It doesn’t mean he’s a bum, I do think Deshaun Watson is a talented dude, but this idea that he’s one of the elite quarterbacks in the NFL?? The four wins this year for the Texans are the Patriots – below .500, Jaguars twice, and Lions. You tell me where the great wins are. They don’t exist!” (Full Audio Above)

Listen to Doug Gottlieb explain why he doesn’t believe Deshaun Watson should be in the same category as some of the NFL’s best quarterbacks, as Doug doesn’t think Watson deserves to be given an ‘elite’ tag by NFL fans and media alike, and certainly shouldn’t be worth $40 million per season.

Check out the audio above as Gottlieb details why although fans and media unanimously like Watson as a person and think he’s a tough guy, they're going way too far into putting him into the same category as MVP caliber quarterbacks.
