Randy Houser had a special guest join him out on stage at his recent show in New York City. Fellow country star, Miranda Lambert, surprised the crowd as she joined Houser on stage for a performance of Conway Twitty and Loretta Lynn's 1971 duet, "After The Fire Is Gone."
A video shot by a fan shows Lambert wearing a star-printed sweater and holding a cup in her hand as she joins Houser on stage. The "Bluebird" singer sways back and forth as Houser strums his acoustic guitar and the two begin to trade lines to the song. The 1971 classic scored Lynn and Twitty their first No. 1 hit as a duo after being released as a single from their joint album, We Only Make Believe.
"Love is where you find it / When you find no love at home / And there's nothin' cold as ashes / After the fire is gone," Houser and Lambert sing in the chorus.
Lambert previously covered "After The Fire Is Gone" with Dierks Bentley in 2013.
Following the show on Wednesday (December 11), Lambert posted a photo of herself, Houser and Paul Cauthen, who's a part of the tour a well.
"Got to catch my good friend @randyhouser show last night with @paulcauthen at @websterhall in NYC," she wrote in the caption. "Randy and I sang 'After The Fire Is Gone' A classic! Thanks for letting me sit in. #countrymusic #countryboys."
Since marrying Brendan McLoughlin, who is an officer with the NYPD, Lambert has been splitting her time between New York City and Nashville. The time she's spent in the Big Apple served as a source of inspiration for her latest album, Wildcard.
"New York is such a city full of art of all kinds and so, if you go there open minded, all the creativity is gonna surround you," she told PopCulture.com. "I was really excited to just kind of...I've only been to New York City a lot to work, so spending time there and actually soaking in the city was amazing."
As for Houser, he's spent more of 2019 touring throughout the country in support of his latest record, Magnolia, which was released in January.
