Over 20 schools had players selected in the NFL, NBA, and MLB drafts this year, but only Kentucky had a player selected in the first round of all three drafts. David Ching at Forbes sorted out all the stats in an article posted this morning.
It's no surprise the Wildcats had a first round selection in the NBA draft, as they have had at least one player go in the first round every year since hiring John Calipari to be their head coach. But with the Jaguars selecting edge rusher Josh Allen with the #7 overall pick, and the St Louis Cardinals taking Pitcher Zack Thompson at 19 overall in the MLB Draft; The Wildcats have had an all-time great off-season when it comes to bragging rights for future recruits.
The always audible peanut gallery from the Twitterverse was quick to point out that in addition to these three drafts, Kentucky also had a player drafted in the first round of the MLS draft. J.J. Williams went #18 overall to the Columbus Crew SC.
