Battery charges dropped against Gators DB Brian Edwards

According to the Orlando Sentinel, the Florida state’s attorney office will not file charges against Florida defensive back Brian Edwards for misdemeanor battery.

Insufficient evidence was the reason the case will not move forward, State Attorney Bill Cervone‘s office said.

Edwards, a junior, was accused of grabbing his girlfriend by the neck as she attempted to leave their apartment, leading to his arrest last month. An incident report from the Gainesville Police Department showed the woman had visible marks on her neck and a scratch on her shoulder when officers arrived.

Edwards has played in 18 games as a Gator, primarily as a reserve defender and on special teams.
