CBS Sports: Jags could have traded Fowler for Bridgewater

According to Jason La Canfora of CBSsports.com the Jaguars were offered a trade from the NY Jets in the pre-season: A straight up player-for-player deal of Dante Fowler Jr. for QB Teddy Bridgewater.

"The Jets reached out to the Jaguars in August, shortly after that suspension, sources said. New York had determined that rookie Sam Darnold was likely to be their starter by then and were just starting to shop Bridgewater and veteran backup Josh McCown. The Jags were offered Bridgewater for Fowler and declined quickly, with the talks fizzling after that." La Canfora wrote in his column.

The Jaguars wound up trading Fowler during their bye week last week to the Rams for draft picks in the  3rd and 5th round. Jacksonville also signed former Pittsburgh backup QB Landry Jones a few weeks ago to add depth at the QB position while Blake Bortles had been benched during the game vs the Texans. Bortles is expected to be the starter when the Jaguars face the Colts in Indianapolis for Week 10.
