Mike Norvell Expected to Become FSU Head Coach Sunday

The 38-year-old Norvell is in the midst of his fourth season at Memphis. In the first three, the Tigers won eight, 10 and eight games as well as two AAC West titles. This season, the Tigers have won a school-record 11 games and claimed a third-straight division title.

The Tigers have also lost all three of its bowl games under Norvell, who is in his first stint as a head coach.

Norvell’s contract is expected to be for six years in the $30 million range.

The coaching change comes less than two years after the Seminoles hired Willie Taggart and fired him just 21 games into his tenure. Under Taggart, Florida State went 9-12 (6-9 in the ACC) and failed to become bowl eligible for the first time in 36 years in 2018.

The Seminoles, once again, find themselves in a spot similar to 2017, as Haggins is currently in the middle of preparing Florida State for its upcoming bowl game.

With the Early Signing Period rapidly approaching , Norvell’s first task will be salvaging the 2020 recruiting class, while also rounding out his coaching staff.
