According to Stadium’s Jeff Goodman, Alford is “in the mix” at Arkansas. The Razorbacks are looking for a replacement for longtime head coach Mike Anderson, who was fired last month.
Houston’s Kelvin Sampson was a reported target, but Sampson is said to be close to a new contract with the Cougars. Nevada’s Eric Musselman is also said to be involved.
Arkansas would be Alford’s fifth Division I program after previous stops at UCLA, Iowa, New Mexico and Southwest Missouri State.
Alford took UCLA to four NCAA Tournaments and three Sweet 16’s in his first five seasons in Westwood, but was doomed by a slow start in Year Six. He was fired in December with his team holding a 7-6 record.
For his career, Alford has been to 11 NCAA Tournaments (four Sweet 16 appearances) and seven NITs.
He owns a 587-298 coaching record.
